Si gäbä eim doch so viu zrügg

2022 Edition

Simon von Gunten

Simon’s work is a personal exploration of his state of mind during his first five years of fatherhood. The piece presented here is a collaboration with his two children who react on the photographic material produced by their father.

The thematic baseline of the work is laid out in the text for „I am a father (working title)“, an exhibition developed in parallel to the work presented here:

With the birth of my two children a lot has changed in my life. I realize that a new phase of my life has begun. The days are filled with activity in the family. Together we manage everyday life, get excited about newly learned abilities and master crises. I go forward on the path of my life, constantly making decisions as where to head.

Time is running. What had happened without any children?

Sometimes I find myself drawn out into the world, where I find a lot of similarities to my current state of mind. The changing of seasons, the blooming of cherry flowers, crumbling factories. The natural course of things. Photography aids me to capture and reflect upon these first years as a father. Where does the journey go?
